This was a feature that is currently offered on Wishlist Plus by Swym and I was involved in the end-to-end planning and design.
Save for later allows shoppers to save products from their carts directly to a "saved" list which can be viewed from the wishlists section and added later to the cart for purchase.
Background
Save for later is a feature that lets shoppers save cart items for later. One of the key issues that Save for Later solves is cart abandonment.
60% of cart actions are for future considerations of a product and shortlisting
75% of shoppers lose track of the shortlisted items when they remove items and purchase selected products
10% is the direct conversion rate for the entire cart. Rest are abandoned
